It has recently been released that soybeans and soy products contain high levels of the female hormone estrogen. Consuming too much of the hormone may lead to many problems, most notably in infants and young children.
Being pregnant is no picnic, and wanting to feed yourself and your growing baby is a paramount consideration. Ingestion of large amounts of soy products can boost your estrogen supply to unhealthy levels. If you are feeding an infant a soy-based formula, it is estimated that the child is absorbing the equivalent of up to five birth control pills a day. Continue reading »

Medication errors alone cause 7,000 deaths a year…or the equivalent of roughly 16 passenger-filled jumbo jet crashes. What contributes to this number of deaths from medication errors? Errors can occur from paper-based scripts, illegible handwriting, misinterpretation of medication dosage, and undetected drug interactions. NEPSI stakeholders include Allscripts LLC, Microsoft Corp., Dell Inc., Fujitsu Computers of America, Cisco Systems Inc., Walters-Kluwer Health Inc., Google, and SureScripts. Together they combined component electronic health care technology and developed an electronic prescribing system used with an Internet connection. And better yet, the service is offered free to any physician in America who wants to participate in the five-year project. Continue reading »

All kids do not develop at the same pace, and boys typically reach puberty a good 5 years later than girls. It is healthy, in some respects, for kids to grow up together regardless of gender, but parenting should account for the biological fact that girls will become women while male siblings are still immature. Further, some girls will achieve menarche as early as at 11 years, while others have to wait for about 2 more years to come of reproductive age. Continue reading »
